Alessandra holds a PhD in Environmental Economics from the University of Trento (Italy) and a Master Degree in Environmental Management and Development from the Australian National University (Canberra, Australia). She is specialized in environmental and ecosystem accounting and in the monetary valuation of ecosystem services.
She was part of the experts involved in the revision of the System of integrated Environmental and Economic Accounting – Ecosystem Accounts (SEEA EA) lead by the United Nations Statistical Division and she is still part of the SEEA EA Working Group on Oceans. She was also a member of the Task Force on Ecosystem Accounts led by Eurostat.
As part of the Joint Research Center of the European Commission, Alessandra has intensively worked on the “Knowledge Innovation Project on Integrated system of Natural Capital Accounts” (KIP-INCA) and developed an operational approach to assess, value and account for different types of ecosystem services. Other than KIP-INCA, Alessandra is also involved in another initiative: LInking ecosystem Services and Benefit to the Economy THrough bridging (LISBETH), whose purpose is to find out by whom and how ecosystem accounts can be used in economy and finance.
Alessandra has published many articles on ecosystem services valuation and accounting and acts as guest editor of two dedicated special issues:

Alessandra has a broad experience as professor in courses at B.S., M.A. and Ph.D. levels, specifically at the Universities of Torino, Venezia, Genova.
