Dr Gabi Teren is the manager of the Wildlife and Transport Programme and the National Biodiversity and Business Network (NBBN) at the Endangered Wildlife Trust (EWT). The NBBN works with forward-thinking businesses to understand their dependencies and impacts on biodiversity. The NBBN manages the Biodiversity Disclosure Project scoring corporate biodiversity performance, and has developed the Biological Diversity Protocol which enables any company to scientifically measure their biodiversity footprint. Gabi is a terrestrial systems ecologist and holds a PhD in Biodiversity from the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg where she is an honourary lecturer. She is on the Executive Committee of the Global Partnership for Business and Biodiversity of the CBD.
She has experience in valuation having co-led the measurement of biodiversity footprints for several large international companies such as Sibanye-Stillwater, Glencore and Mondi. Her experience as a terrestrial ecologist in Africa brings a solid understanding of on-the-ground components of diverse and complex ecosystems, as well as accounting for change in ecosystems with intact megafaunal assemblages, only found in Africa in the present-day. She has critical skills in assessing connectedness of ecosystems at different spatial and temporal scales, important to the understanding of valuation for the future.
